Ubuntu... Not my fav, I use Debian... However it's been a while since I've used nix in a desktop situation.

I use Debian for my servers... So yeah... Take a look at debian, but for a starter it would have to be Ubuntu or Debian.

Nix can be like that. Some distros HATE certain component combinations... IE CentOS dosen't work on my K-2 rigs...
