i know i used to be one of the biggest cracked game player but even im starting to get my collection up to scratch of legit games.
as for saders list im up to play:
Monday Night Combat (i bought the game and am still yet to get to play it properly)
Company of heroes
Dawn of War 1 (never liked 2 though)
Ranibow six vegas two (because its the only one i own)
UT anythings (i will have to buy 3 again because i lost my copy)
L4D
Killing floor (which requires an internet connection to play lan)
M&B (own all of them and wouldnt mind trying them multi)

the others i either dont own because i dont like or simply havnt got around to buying yet.

and azza if you set up a server of UT3 again im there to multi. i will even hunt down another legit copy before the weekend if i can
Finally have my pc back it might not be that great but atleast she works

you know what, you dont want to come dont come. Seriously LAN's as a format have been obsolete since the invention of hamachi, and good for you with you unl. 8meg, some of us have to put up with what we can get, often thats not much. The lan offers much for those who want to share data or games or just socialise(in case you dont notice most of us nerd dont do that often)
but if you want to play the latest games with "fully hardcore players bru" buy an xbox. cause thats all thats come out this last 2 years, shitty console-port crap.
also there is NOTHING wrong with older games, most new games look like they are built on engines older than Farcry2 and Crysis 1

We dont run this just to play the latest an greatest games we run a lan to provide a Social environment for like-minded people share data and news, show off our big shiny pc's, an occasionally we do get a good game competion going... we dont earn money from this, so please, dont like it, dont come, dont have a 2-post long bitch about how shit our lan is OK?

Flame up much?

Seriously Azza what's got your proverbial panty’s in a twist? I made it very clear in my previous post that I was just trying to define if it was worth MY OWN TIME AND EFFORT coming to the lan.

I was not "paying your event out" I was simply making  comments in general about lanning as a whole, and the only time I have mentioned money is from the point of view of MY OWN EXPENSES, and I’m sorry if I perceive that LANNING should be a concurrent thing with recent games and was simply trying to define what could be played and if anything being played is on my/my friends  current gaming list so I could maybe BRING SOME FRESH PLAYERS TO THE LAN and it’s not my fault if people don’t want to play old games.

It’s also a matter of personal opinion if new games look crap or not, personally I think there’s a lot of new games out that I think are incredibly fun to play and I was simply seeing if other people had/where interested in them as well.

I’ve been LANNING for over 10 years now and old game simply don’t hold that much appeal to ME anymore as I've been there done that, and as I stated previously I wouldn't be coming if the games weren’t up to scratch so stress not.

I personally think that its fine that you enjoy stroking your epenis by comparing pcs etc but I’m all about the games and think its pretty weird that a "LAN" doesn’t have a bigger focus on them, I also built a super high specked pc just for gaming and don’t see the point to having one without it.

And pointing out that I have a unlimited connection was mainly about the fact that ALOT OF PEOPLE DO these days and thusly as a case example leeching is kind of redundant.

And I make long posts as I like ACTUALLY ADDRESSING people’s concerns/opinions in detail instead of just flaming up simply because "oh no's hes paying my lan out :P"

Lastly dont go calling your event a "LAN" if all it is is a private meet and great for your friends where you can stroke your epenis and sprout your uneducated opinions about whatever BS you think you know about this month, and the notion that you dont make any money from this event is absolute feculant matter! (25 people at 20 a pop = $500 just from entry and I seriously doubt it cost you $500 per event to hire the hall).

LANNING is about gaming first and formost and a public lan without games to play is freaking pointless! - As is a forum where the admins get uppity because someone questioned the way they run there event/dared to make multiple post from the point of view of possible clients outside of there pre-ordaned regular attendees (so it pretty obvious you dont want to get anyone else every coming to this thing and il stop teling people from the local area about it).

If you do run another one in the future and would like some people to turn up who are ACTUALLY THERE TO GAME then please provide a full list of all the games that will be played at that event and I’ll turn up with a bunch of other real GAMERS as long as I can convince them to reload the games in question.

Also Crusader thank you for actually providing a temp list when I requested , but since it’s pretty obvious the lans basically a gathering of friends now and not an open community gaming event anymore and I don’t think I will be attending this weekend.

@ Kael_ar whatever

DUDE flame up much?
You think you can do it better? you think you can make money from it? well then wheres your lan event? i wanst actually getting that angry, i was just point out the fact that your post was.. negative in its format.
YOU made a personal attack to admins in general, now tell me, what has avarice and luke done to annoy you huh? I pissed you off, direct you flame at me, and preferably via PM not by posting a very large irrelevant off-topic post. I've also been "LANNING" for 10 years, i used to be an admin for a lan in Melbs, ive seen my fair share of lanning time.
ALSO by assuming everyone has and can get good internet your excluding a large number of people who either cant pay for good net, cant get good net or are simply stuck at home with their parents shitty bigpond.
and yes it does cost nearly that much, then theres the drinks, food, networking gear, cables, etc etc im pretty sure slayer actually loses money per event. and i know i do.
IN THE END i have no porblem with constructive critisim THERES A WHOLE SECTION FOR IT. i just dont like this negative bullshit you sprouted in the annoucement thread.
THERES A TIME AND A PLACE. As a result i will remove off-topic posts, any suggestions GO IN THE SUGGESTION THREAD

I'm a helpful son of a bitch, it's what I do :3

OT: You are right, the only people who ever come are ones from Steady's LAN/beforehand and friends of such people. We don't ever get any brand new, completely unknown people. Personally I believe Wangaratta is just too small for that, I know quite a few gamers but around half are consolers/live elsewhere so the PC side is quite small.

There could be more out there, I don't know, the LAN isn't really advertised at all anymore afaik(I could be wrong) so the only people who even KNOW about it, are people we personally know - hence the 'gathering of friends' part.

But even if there were more people who could come, chances are they won't want to because of the lack of games we have to play; "why go to a LAN with a bunch of random people when you could stay at home and play the latest and greatest online?".

If newer games had LAN support, if the LAN was more advertised(especially around schools/tafe/IT Businesses) and if there was more incentive to come(door prize, more comps, etc) then maybe it'd be better off, but the first point shoots the rest in the foot.

Also Azza, no need to start deleting stuff, as long as it stay's civil it's fine. But yes, both of you need to calm down a tad..

Yes well put crusader, this is how flame wars start and I’m not trying to start one.

Azza I will apologise for being so direct but I don’t know where you first got the idea that I was attacking the lan from I started my comments originally TRYING to get more people to come as a whole.

I enjoy lan gaming immensely (and have for ages thus the 10 years thing) and all the comments about net/leeching/new games was BASED on the comments I’m hearing from the other people I know that are interest and my own experience/want from the event as a participant.

I have never claimed that I could run it better and the notion of cash was brought up based on a direct response to your own notion that you don’t profit from it (I really don’t care either way), or from the point of view that it’s a bit to expensive for out of Towner’s simply to socialize.

I simply wanted to come play some current games and that’s it, you guys are the admins, it’s always been your lan I simply wanted to come play some freaking new games!

I gave up on my own notion of running my own sponsored a gaming event with PimpTv ages ago as there’s 2 good ones in shep (one sponsored) and as you have pointed out previously the net has kick ass online games these days so I can play with my “mates” any day of the week.

I also make a good enough living fixing pcs to not care about all that sponsorship bs I tried at the start (and even then I was simply trying to bring more gamers along and sponsorship for free stuff), I simply want to play games again.

I look forward to lan’s for playing new games against new people in a competitive friendly atmosphere, and I promise that this is my last UBER post, I originally started by asking for a simply list so I could show it to my lan mates.

I’ll let it go for now, hope you all have a very good lan and when the next event happens as I’ve said for the billionth time now, provide a decent list of games that you are playing in advance (old or new but I don’t give a shit about prizes, I want to play new games as do most people I know) and if it’s a good list (ie interesting enough to load up a car for) you will get some dedicated players

And obviously I have nothing against luke or anyone who runs the lan I think it’s great you still run it I personally don’t want to see it die as a gaming event the more around the better.

That’s it done  - peace out!

I have to apologise as well, i've been sick these last few days and naturally in a bad mood because of it, i assumed hostility which wasnt there.
Oh well
these things happen lols
ANYWAY
Moving on
Luke an i have already started thinking about putting up servers for many of the games mentioned, i know i can do UT3 without much hassle but Shattered Horizon's dedi server is a moody bitch and doesnt like my server rig.
Dawn of War 1 seems to be a popular vote as well.. might have to grit my teeth and bury my head in warhammer once more for that one
however none of this addresses the problems outlined earlier in the post. eg no games from 2010/11 have fucking lan support (evil corperate bastards)
at this stage i'm happy that randlan's survived 2 venues shutting down
Either way i hope to see randlan better promoted, hell if we really have to we could open it up to the consolers an offer system-link games n what not (seems a bit of googleing revealed consoles are getting new LAN games but pc's dont.. rude right?) but i dnno, not my area of expertise i havent owned a console other than my N64 which i keep around for nostailgia
